Oecanthus varicornis
A male Different-horned tree cricket singing in Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Texas.
Note the very wide wings on this male Different-horned tree cricket.
Tree crickets groom themselves frequently.
Females are light green. This species have deep red isolated to the top of the head and base of antennae, with whitish face and dark black antennae.
Note the all white face. This differs from Texas tree cricket.
Most have a single black line on the front of the first two antennal segments.
Nymphs have a reddish strip down the center.
This 3rd instar nymph still displays the reddish strip.
