The first species of tree crickets to be described and named in the U.S. were O. niveus and N. bipunctata, by DeGeer in 1773.  The first species to be named was O. pellucens by Scopoli in 1763.  However, they were all initially given other names in other genera.  The genus Oecanthus was not 'named' until 1831 by Serville; and the genus Neoxabea was not 'named' until 1906 by Kirby.
